Ghumat in Goa

  ghumot ,  gumot  or  ghumat  is a  instrument from Goa-India.it  is a percussion instrument of earthen vessel having both sides open; on the bigger opening a leather (drum membrane) of monitor lizard is mounted. Generally ghumat is accompanied by 'samel', another traditional instrument with wooden drum and goat leather mount. This instrument is still very popular amongst by the all the goans Ghumat forms an integral part of Goan folk, religious and temple music, both Hindu and Christian. It serves as an accompaniment to the folk songs and to the "mando"  music. But most importantly it plays a vital role in the music played in Goa during the ganesh festival  . It also used in most of the Goan temples during the spring season in an orchestra called as  Suvari Vadan .

shigmostav Festival of goa

Shigmotsav is a popular festival in Goa. It is similar to the festival of Holi. The Hin dus celebrate this 14 days long festival. The Goan Hindu traditions and mythology is showcased in this festival. Shigmotsav is celebrated to mark the farewell of winter. During the festival, people withdraw from non-vegetarian food and alcohol drinks.these festival is also known as 'dhurvad' in north goa and 'shigmo' in south goa The Shigmo or Shigmotsav festival is celebrated in the month of Phalguna (March) from the 9th moon day to full moon day as per the Hindu calendar. It is the biggest festival for the Hindus in Goa. The 5th day is called ' Rang Panchami '. This day of rejoicing is celebrated with the abundant use of 'Gulal' or red powder. now days youths are also getting this tradition ahead on the table by forming new groups for the competition forming a "romtamel pathak"These are interspersed with small groups that move along the route
